Onyx Lamps Canada is a small import company located in Prince George B.C. Canada. It was formed in the fall of 2015 and imported its first shipment of lamps at that time. We purchase our product from a small family owned and operated business in Puebla Mexico, import the lamps to Prince George, BC and there they are assembled using CSA approved components and certified by an inspection agency. All of our lamps include the certification sticker from the agency who inspected them for quality and safety.

We like to make a point of informing our customers of this important fact as so many importers are marketing product from Mexico and overseas suppliers that can and do not meet federal safety requirements. For the safety of your families, friends, and homes and to satisfy insurance company regulations it is imperative that especially light products conform to federal safety regulations.

This all comes at considerable cost and Onyx Lamps Canada wants its customers to know that all our products are certified and serial numbered for proof. WHAT IS ONYX?

Onyx is a perfectly imperfect oxide mineral, its a cryptocryalline calcite much like Agate and differs only by its parallel bands.

The colours of Onyx are from white to anything imaginable, most pieces have parallel bands or veining some with different colours. Probably the best property of Onyx is its translucencies and the stunning effects it gives when backlit.

Onyx comes in rocks the size of pick up trucks and its cut to more manageable sized pieces with a large saw. From there the smaller pieces are shaped into anything from soap dishes and bowls to sheets of stone used in table tops and wall coverings. The colours and veining are pronounced by backlighting.

Most of our Onyx Lamps have some degree of veining. Veins are the long meandering lines of color that traverse the natural stone. They are caused by water carrying minerals of different colors into cracks or voids with high pressure. The way the onyx is cut can affect the veining patterns creating parallel lines and sometime swirl like patterns.

Color Variations

There are 5 main color variations available and take note that with all the different colours and types of lights on the market today a lot of variation can be achieved by changing light bulbs.

In all the lamps I have there are no two lamps that are Identical and this makes the colour labelling difficult and sometimes a little inaccurate. Many lamps are multi coloured with as many as 5 or 6 different colours on one side.

I like to use the phrase perfectly imperfect because when describing things created by nature that is often how they are. This holds especially true for Onyx Stone. The color defiinitions listed below are meant to be a guideline and help describe generally what you can expect to see when you look at a lamp as marked.

NARANJA

Our most popular color, fits well in most surroundings, has warm natural tones usually orange and some will have golds and yellows. The yellow lamps throw more light and the darker oranges less light. The amount of light can usually be adjusted in any situation by changing bulbs to achieve the brightness your looking for.
